Base 9 / QLTD / Shane Ries
1985 – 1988 Shane Ries started his career by forming one of the most respected Mod bands in Los Angeles called The Key. The band headlined shows with such acts as Fishbone, The Untouchables, No Doubt, Bad Manners and The Question selling thousands of records worldwide through well-known London based Mod Label, Unicorn Records.
1997 – 2003 Base 9 began as a label and started selling Electronica, Hip Hop and Neo Soul with sales and distribution around the world with such artists as Rebirth, Dr. Onionskin, Moonraker and Alfa One Seven. The label and it’s Artist teamed up to do cross promotional events with VANS, Rip Curl, C1rca, Skate Jam 2000, Project 3, Glen Fest and The X-Concerts. Rose Pierce at Ruffhouse/Ovum/Columbia, hired Base 9 to head the L.A. Street Team promoting artists Lauryn Hill, Cypress Hill, Pras, Josh Wink, and Wyclef.
2004 – 2006 Music Licensing became the next step. Base 9 clients have included VANS, MTV, VH1, Fox Sports Network, Transworld “Feedback” DVD, Hardcore Candy TV, Atari/Infogrames, Sony Playstation 2 and Xbox, as well as, TV Shows like Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami, Khloe and Lamar and Buzzin just to name a few.
2007 – 2010 The company entered into film production with two short films, The Parisian Incident nominated for Best Short Film at the Atlanta, Georgia International Film Festival and CYCLE, an Official Selection at the Playhouse West Film Festival in Hollywood, CA. available on Amazon.
2011 – 2012 Base 9 placed music in many syndicated cable shows and films like Bomb it!, the first installment in the award winning Bomb It! Documentary Series, as well as, Bomb it! 2. Shane Ries was invited by The Whosoevers (Founder’s Sonny of P.O.D., Ryan Ries and Brian “Head” Welch from Korn) to film and produce a documentary entitled W 3sixty5 of their growing Movement. Later that year, also filming and producing four scenes of Raul Ries’ life for a major event in Las Vegas at the Thomas Mack Arena featuring Brian “Head” Welch from Korn, Blindside and Flyleaf.
2014 – 2016 Shane Ries produces and releases Abraham’s Desert, winning Best Music Score at Cinerockom Hollywood Film Festival and W 3sixty5 nominated for Best Producer and Best Director at the London Film Festival. Both films are available worldwide on many different platforms. New artist The Krook releases new music on all digital platforms. Base 9 artist Fhonic places song on exclusive VANS South American promo, featuring Marcelo Sommer, one of Brazils biggest fashion icons.
2021 – Out Now Dr. Onionskin’s 6th release, Electric Mod available worldwide on all digital platforms.
2022 – Two new feature films are in development for production,1932 and Rise From Darkness. To be continued…
